So I purchased this headset because I wanted a good headset to watch movies with, listen to music, and play games on. Since I play online games a lot, the mic option was also an important factor for me.
The sound quality is absolutetly the greatest thing I've ever heard. Surround sound in a headset was a brilliant idea and is well implemented with this headset.
When I bought this headset, I was a little wary because people were unhappy with the static that their mic was putting out. However, I found this to be a very easy fix. When you install your drivers for the headset, in the SRM program that gets installed, goto the Mixer tab and reduce the volume in the record settings down near the bottom until you see nearly no green noise in the volume levels. Then if you need to boost your sound, do it by increasing the gain on ventrillo or teamspeak.

I use these in a 17' x 17' living / TV room with one open wall. White walls and ceiling all around. I sit 12-13 feet from the transmitter, move around the room occasionally and have no issues with range or dropouts. I got them mostly for late night viewing when the wife is asleep.
Very comfortable; can wear them for hours without ear pain/fatigue and scarely know they are on. Outstanding surround sound quality. To me, they seem the equivalent of good speakers with exceptional bass response. While I have a 5.1 speaker system, these obviate the need for it. With these, there is no need to balance speakers and sit in the 'sweet spot'. They are the sonic equivalent of a movie theater.
No more arguing over volume issues. Extra headsets can be had and used to accommodate multiple listeners with separate volume preferences. With multiple headsets these might prove a good solution for home theater applications / apartment living without having to resort to expensive sound proofing (or even buying expensive speakers -- or 'ugly black boxes'). I don't understand why not all headphones are USB just like this one. The sound quality is very good. Having surround sound in a headphone is not as good as from being inside an open room but it beats any plain 2-ch analog headphone. The volume control and mic on the cable make very usable and overall it is of very good quality.
I would recommend these for home/office computer use. For laptops the headphone might use a bit more power than a dedicated sound chip but it will be compensated by a lower needed volume.

Ltb Magnum 5.1 USB Headphone
After installing the software, it worked smoothly for a few minutes. The sound was good, and it does deliver it's 5.1 surround sound promise playing with Call of Duty 4 and Tabula Rasa. But when I played with NBA Live 08, after a few minutes, the game crashed and flashed a bad direct sound driver error. The sound on the headphones stopped working by then. I rebooted and it was still broken. Uninstalled the LTB software, then reinstalled it and still didn't work. By then, every time I rebooted DirectSound kept flashing an error and all my sound was messed up. I had to reinstall my sound driver (Realtek HD 7.1) just to make it work again.
Downloaded the latest software provided on their website and still got the same error when I played for about 30 minutes or so with any game. And thus I had to reinstall everything once more.

Acoustic Research 5.1 Surround Wireless Headphones (AWD510)
I just purchased a pair of these headphones at ultimate electronics. I plugged in the digital optical cable from my DVD right into the headphone base. I watched the intro to lord of the rings (fellowship) as well as the end fight scene of spiderman. The sound quality was so poor on both movies that it was not enjoyable to watch.
For a test, I took the spiderman dvd and plugged it into my macbook and used an old pair of optimus nova 71 headphones and they blew away the sound of the Acoustic Research headphones.

The second generation was a radical overhaul and reversed most opinions- it was light and small and simple to operate, but felt solid and had an ever-useful clip for attachment to your clothes while exercising.
The 3rd generation shuffle is another step forward. It looks like neither of its predecessors (which in the case of the 1st gen. is a plus) but instead opts to be more subtle and refined. It weighs in at just 0.4 ounces, has a less intrusive clip than the 2nd gen. and is available in either silver or charcoal grey. There are no buttons to be found on this model either, just a switch on the side to toggle off/shuffle/regular play.
The volume and song skipping functions are instead placed on the headphone chord- a rocker that moves side-to-side to increase and decrease the volume, and a centre button that requires various pressure sequences to skip back and forwards. Whilst this sounds complex, it's actually quite a well-designed and intuitive inclusion: you press the button once to pause, twice to skip forwards, and three time to skip backwards.
Another interesting function is the VoiceOver technology, which (when the centre button is held down will read the song title and artist to you through the headphones. This makes up for the lack of screen and could pave the way for further voice based technology in the future.
All-in-all, another improvement on the Shuffle by Apple.

Therefore it is important to have at least a 1 year warrant for cases of "bad luck". Some stores allow you to increase your warranty at additional cost, I find this option extremely wise.
6. Size - you want to be portable. Especially if you're on the road a lot. Make sure you eReader is small enough and doesn't take much space. Also make sure that it isn't too small so you will still be able to read off it easily. Regarding weight the average eReader should weigh around 300gr (10 ounces).
7. Customer reviews - Probably the most important thing to remember. Since most of these gadgets are bought online you have access to hundreds of customer reviews. I use these in a 17' x 17' living / TV room with one open wall. White walls and ceiling all around. I sit 12-13 feet from the transmitter, move around the room occasionally and have no issues with range or dropouts. I got them mostly for late night viewing when the wife is asleep.
Very comfortable; can wear them for hours without ear pain/fatigue and scarely know they are on. Outstanding surround sound quality. To me, they seem the equivalent of good speakers with exceptional bass response. While I have a 5.1 speaker system, these obviate the need for it. With these, there is no need to balance speakers and sit in the 'sweet spot'. They are the sonic equivalent of a movie theater.
No more arguing over volume issues. Extra headsets can be had and used to accommodate multiple listeners with separate volume preferences. With multiple headsets these might prove a good solution for home theater applications / apartment living without having to resort to expensive sound proofing (or even buying expensive speakers -- or 'ugly black boxes'). An inexpensive receiver, or any source for that matter with Dolby Digital or Dolby Pro Pogic II, would suffice.

LCD stands for liquid crystal display and whilst the technology has been around for 3 decades, it is only now that LCD monitors and televisions are becoming part of the average person's every day life.
The obvious advantages to using an LCD monitor over the older CRT monitors is the size difference. The LCD screens are a fraction of the depth which gives you more room. This is also applicable to televisions. Large screen sizes still only have a minimum depth so it will not take up your whole lounge space.
LCD screen do have some disadvantages to them, though these are becoming less and less apparent as the demand for them grows. Most companies have stopped manufacturing CRT monitors now and it will not be long before CRT televisions are a thing of the past.
When buying an LCD TV there are certain things you should look out for to ensure you get what you need.
Viewing Angle
Not really a major one these days as most monitors you will only be looking directly at the screen. TVs you may not be so a wider viewing angle is preferred. Quite simply it is the angle you can be facing the screen to still get a decent picture so if the viewing angle is 160 degrees, sitting within a 160 degree angle you will still have a good picture. Outside of this you may lose some of the colouring.
Resolution
Some cheaper models or older screens may have issues with unsupported resolutions. This isn't usually a problem but worth considering depending on your intended use. Running in an n unsupported resolution can lead to blurry images.
Contrast Ratio
Contrast ratio is important and it is often the defining factor in an expensive model against a cheap model. 1000:1 is a good contrast ratio but the more standard 700:1 is adequate. Probably best not going much lower than this.
Brightness
Depending on your use for it you want to get the highest number possible. For the hard core movie lover then 300 cd/m2 is perfect but otherwise 250 is perfectly adequate.
Response time
This is literally how quickly the screen responds. Cheaper models tend to have slower response times that can affect you if you intend to play fast paced games and/or intend to watch films in the best image possible. True response time is measured in changing black to white - If you want something decent then aim to go 8ms or below/ As with everything, you get what you pay for!

Talking translators are excellent for learning languages. A talking translator is a program that translates one language to another and provides the translation through an audio feature. This audio feature is basically a recorded human voice. They may work through text-to-speech conversion, or may use voice recognition to translate spoken input. They can also facilitate communication for a person who is traveling or interacting with someone who speaks a different language. Some talking translator products can translate words and phrases among hundreds of languages.
Since January 2001, the devices have been used to enable United States troops to communicate with natives in foreign countries, including Afghanistan and Iraq. While talking translators are a major feature of handheld or portable devices, some computer systems have it as one of their software. Examples of such computers are desktops, personal digital assistants and laptops. Like electronic dictionaries, you simply have to type a word on your handheld device then, it delivers the translation to you by showing you its textual or written format, after which, the voice feature pronounces the word.
Some talking translators understand human speech. You can input it into your handheld device by pronouncing or uttering it. This helps language learners in correct pronunciations. Some talking translators let you save your import and reports. The same is true if you wish to view your saved documents.

I've often wondered if these devices were as good as they promised to be. Are they sensible replacements of my old fashioned phrase books and dictionaries? A translator can take any word from any of several languages, and translate it to any of the remaining languages it is capable of. I speak some Spanish and have tested English capabilities, with various translators while also making certain that the dictionary entries and phrases did exist for other languages. Some units are easy to understand and use.
Shop around test some of these units in stores. I do everything by trial and error without reading the manuals to test the simplicity of operation. The shorter the expression you need to verbalize, the easier it is for you and the person you're talking to understand each other. Some translators boast that they have hundreds of thousands of words and useful phrases. To compare, seems that some language conversion dictionaries have less words and translations than these translators do.
Some translators don't express gender, and only change except to designate possession. The only change is singular or plural. Other languages have much more complicated grammar, with nouns changing several different ways depending on how they are used, plus having various male or female or even neuter genders, and having sometimes not just singular and plural but other forms. Some translators are equal to the task.
Some can speak any word or phrase, in any of the several languages. In others, the quality of speech can be very poor due to low sampling rates when the people's voices were recorded. Shop around before you buy one.
I suggest the vocal translators to all my friends and family. I think they make excellent gifts.

Tis the season for Christmas Crafts. Just think how lovely it is to receive a homemade Christmas gift from someone you care about and love. You know you will cherish it always. Wouldn't someone you love feel the same way if you gave them a Christmas Craft gift?
But you fear you are not creative enough to complete a craft. You say you can not sew. You can not embroidery. You don't even know how to knit. Well, do not fear there are so many craft projects and craft kits that you can buy that even the least creative people amongst us can find something they can do.
Can you paint? You could buy an all ready prepared, cut and put together craft project such as a nice jewelry box, a picture frame, a knick nack of some sort that needs to be finished. These can be bought at some department stores in their craft aisle and at all major Hobby shops across the country.
Can you sew at least a little? You could buy some nice patches and emblems and then personalized such items as: towels, aprons, tote bags, chef hats, etc. If you can't sew you could even buy iron on patches. All you need is an iron and the ability to follow the directions that come with the patches.
Would you like to try your hand at making photo ornaments for your tree or to give as presents? All you need is: a great looking photo, some card board paper, some string or ribbon, some tape and if you can get it a piece of plastic like what is used as file covers, a pair of scissors and maybe some markers. Cut your cardboard a bit larger than your photo. Secure the photo to the card board with the tape. Now cut a hole at the edge of the cardboard and run some string through the hole, tying it in a loop. This loop will be how you can hang the photo ornament to your tree. Now cut the plastic the same size of your cardboard. Decorate the edge of the cardboard that may show. Now lay the photo onto the cardboard, cover with the plastic and tape. Viola you have a picture ornament.
You could even make your Christmas cards a Christmas craft project. You can use your computer for help with this. There are many sites that offer many templates to getting you started in making your own cards.
If you have little ones around who love to color, you can also download many coloring Christmas coloring projects for them to add their creative touches, too. These soon to be masterpieces could be added to your Christmas Cards, hung from your refrigerator, hung in your windows and enjoyed by all.
Do you or a lot of people you know enjoy candles? You could always make candle holders for them to enjoy. Take a small baby food jar. Wash and allow it to completely dry. Then you could cover it with such things as: buttons, squares of tissue paper in different colors, etc. Add a new, great smelling votive candle to the holder and you have an instant, thoughtful and creative gift.
Remember when it comes to Christmas Crafts you don't have to be a pro to enjoy them, all you need is a bit of the Christmas spirit flowing through your body.

Very comfortable earbuds. I can wear them for hours without getting my ear feeling agrivated. The sound is amazing. Compared it to some products twice the price and i really could not tell the difference. These were more comfortable though. The only thing that bugs me is that they do not come with a case of any sort!!!! The case would have been worth an extra star.

I bought these primarily due to the low price. I was a little worried when they arrived - generic Chinese packaging, instructions that could be much clearer. Once I got them hooked up to the computer (under 1 minute, plug them in) and finally got the headphones picking up the signal, it's been smooth sailing. The headset is pretty lightweight and comfortable, the signal reaches all rooms of the house. Each part of the unit requires 2 AAA batteries, so be sure to buy 4 batteries at the same time.

Even as amazing as the iPod is, it can break. It is just a tiny computer after all, with a hard drive and logic board to boot. And as we've known for years, computers don't exactly work the way we want them to 100% of the time.
My 5th Generation iPod began to show signs of wear. At times, only one side of my headphones would work. Or even worse, the songs would either skip or freeze, and the only remedy for that would be a quick reset. Then one day, when I thought things couldn't get any worse, I sat on my iPod while getting into my car and cracked the screen. Don't laugh - I'm working on losing weight too. It had only been a little over a year since I had bought it from my local Apple store. Naturally, I gave Apple customer support a call...and waited. And waited. After about 20 - 30 minutes of pressing numbers on the phone, then holding, then being transferred, then holding, then being transferred again, then holding - I finally got in contact with someone I couldn't understand. After getting all my info out, basically, they told me that for $150 they would gladly allow me to send in my busted iPod in return for a refurbished one of the same model, with no warranty, mind you. This would be a completely different iPod that was once broken, with no warranty, that costs almost as much as a brand new iPod. I wasn't cool with this, so I decided to find a repair company online, and saved a ton of money.

I just purchased a pair of these headphones at ultimate electronics. I plugged in the digital optical cable from my DVD right into the headphone base. I watched the intro to lord of the rings (fellowship) as well as the end fight scene of spiderman. The sound quality was so poor on both movies that it was not enjoyable to watch.
For a test, I took the spiderman dvd and plugged it into my macbook and used an old pair of optimus nova 71 headphones and they blew away the sound of the Acoustic Research headphones.

I ordered the item, received it and used it for about 12 hours over 2 days. It works just fine within its limitations. I have a high end hearing loss and I need a more professional system that has eq adjustments to account for my hearing limitations. This system reproduces the sounds and voices well but the sound comes out too heavy on the bass for my hearing and much of the time the talking I heard was garbled due to the lack of eq. Thanks for the quick service on the return.
